A Little Bit of Research

Wednesday, August 10, 2016

This week I was a bit busy therefore I thought instead of so much of a technical practice I thought I'd share a bit of media related research/ entertainment. Over the last few weeks I've been on Youtube exploring a new side of film (not particularly new to the world but new to me). The new aspect being short (15-20 minute long) films on Youtube.

I've found two creators in particular I like being Sammy Paul, My favourite film being a 'Friend Like Me' shown below and Bertie Gilbert, my favourite film of his being 'Let It Be'. Bertie has also starred in short films as well as creating them, hence being the main character in ' Friend Like Me'. As well as being individual creators the two collaborate with others and have worked together to create films such as 'Blue Sushi'.

Just as a brief background on Sammy Paul before moving onto his film, Sammy is a British film maker best known for 'Friend Like Me', 'Blue Sushi' and 'Rocks That Bleed'. As well as films Sammy also creates short skits which are uploaded along side his films on his YouTube channel 'Sammy Paul'. He also has another Youtube channel 'What I'm Doing Now' which focuses more on himself and what he's been doing/working on each month.

The Main film I've chosen to focus on is Sammy Paul's film 'Friend Like Me' because I very much enjoyed the film plus it provided extra information of a 'behind the scenes' video.

The Film, made by Sammy Paul, stars a wide range of well known Youtuber's such as Bertie Gilbert (as mentioned earlier) and Chris Kendall also known by Youtube fans as Crabsticks. The description given to stays as simple as 'A story of Toby, his genie and the very last wish...'
Without revealing anymore, here's the film it's self.

I love this film very much, everything about it from the story-line to the whole cinematography. Due to this I've watched it 4 times in the last week. Adding on to the film I also enjoyed the 'Making of' video in which Sammy explores a lot of the hard work that went into creating the film and gives the actors perspectives.
